In 60 days, I will be rehearsing for my wedding day, celebrating with close family & friends the journey ahead while enjoying delicious food. Several months ago, writing blog entries about planning a wedding was easy. As the weeks went by, however, & summer rushed in, the weekends were filled with either appointments for the wedding or attending other people’s weddings.
In June/July alone, I visited New York & Michigan for weddings (my father’s wedding in June and a bridesmaid in July), then New York again for my grandmother’s 78th birthday, and then it was off to Pennsylvania for a visit with my fiance’s family.
These multiple one to two day trips of course ate up my time & wallet, so pleasure writing about wedding planning was thrown to the back burner. To be honest, most wedding ‘planning’ has become a lot of last minute bookings and those ‘oh, at least we have food & music’ thoughts.
As the wedding date approaches, we are thinking about more personal touches that cost next to nothing, from wacky cake toppers to a slideshow of photograph showing us from children to adulthood.
The cake topper element will be a nice surprise, as we are going for a Star Trek meets Star Wars theme. I, of course, look like the betazoid Deanna Troi from Star Trek: The Next generation and Matt, a young Obe Wan Kenobi, decked with facial hair & light saber. The action figures cost between $3 and $9 so it’s a fun, but fairly inexpensive way to add a little personal touch to our wedding day.
