Wedding budget

I must say I had quite the sticker shock when I first started planning my wedding! My Fiance and I are footing the entire bill for the wedding so our budget is quite tiny! Add the fact that shortly after the wedding we are moving so we need to save as much money as we can.

I'm still in the planning phase and with a date of August 2nd I feel like I'm running out of time.

I already have my dress, I went with silk flowers and I'm printing my own invitations. Since our wedding is in the summer we're going with a simple Bar-B-Q buffet dinner.

What money saving ideas have you come up with for your wedding?

Congrats! I totally know what you mean- we just bought a condo ourselves, and are getting married in October- so definitely watching the budget.

I am doing the invitations myself- and I've saved a lot of money doing that- no calligrapher or letterpress- I am really happy with them- I used rich, warm colors- and people have actually asked me who designed them, and where I ordered from!

Our DJ is an old friend from High School who now has his own business- so that's saving us some $$. Our cake is included with our catering contract.

Flowers- if it's at the ceremony, it will have a place somewhere to decorate the reception. Bridesmaid bouquets will go straight into vases at the reception on our head table.

Let me know if you want any help- I have loved planning our wedding.. and am already anxious to help others!

Hey..I'm getting married Aug. 2nd too. Check out craigslist.com I found my Tiffany colored favor boxes there and a bunch of other stuff really cheap. Have you purchased your silk flowers yet? I know they can get expensive. En Masse downtown has new pretty inexpensive packages for flowers or can get packages picked up from Costco.

I have saved so much money by making most of my decorations and invitations as well. I was able to find great deals by searching through various websites. i used ribbon on my invitations and a few other things - i was able to find it at $9 for 100 yards-- at Joanns you would spend hundreds for that much! I have heard that costco is very cost effective for flowers, and you can even order them ahead of time to make sure they have exactly what you need. to save some money on our centerpieces, we are using 2 different ones, roses, and then also tall vases with cherry blossom branches in them. they'll be in season, and are much less expensive than roses! let me know if you need help with anything!

Wow, thank you all for your replies!!!

I ordered my flowers from thebridesbouquet.com and got my boquet, my bridesmaids boquets (4 of them), the bridal table center piece, 6 center pieces for the other tables, the groom's boutonniere along with the ushers and Father of the bride (8 total), and the flower girl baskets with pedals (2 each) all for under $400.

I will probably pick up some fresh roses from Costco (who can beat 2 dz roses for under $15?) to decorate the arch which we are borrowing from a friend.

I have scoured the net for our decorations, but hadn't thought of Craigs list...thanks for that suggestion!!

As for my invitations, I ordered a kit from all places....Target.com!!! I just finished printing them out and they turned out WONDERFUL! Thankfully, I had use of a color Laser printer so they look like they were printed professionally and they only cost me $80 for 100 invites.

Thanks again everyone!!!

I haven't even begun to think about invites, flowers or any of that yet... our wedding date is not set in stone, i want the weather to be kind of cool, but it can't be in hunting season??
we are getting married in baker park, so as far as flowers for the ceremony surroundings, it won't be needed as the blooming trees and all will be beautiful...
we plan to marry at the covered bridge by the baseball field...
we have reasons for this spot and they are quite romantic and even a little quirky...

One one my budget "secrets" are the weekly 40-50% off coupons for Michaels, A.C. Moore and JoAnn Fabrics. Each week I clip the coupon and buy one item from the store that is in my decoration plan. It has saved me lots of money! I got my invitations $16 off, a couple of vases over $20 off and more.

Also, I am having a candy buffet, so I need lots of clear vases to display candy in. I am buying most of these from Goodwill! I get vases for $0.50-$2.00 each versus paying $5-25 for the same vases at a craft store. Also, since they are secondhand there is a lot of variety in size and shape!

I have also found a lot of post-wedding decor ends up at Goodwill, so if you need some candle holders and such, check there.

Emringling09, great ideas. If we didn't have our gifts planned, I'd totally go for the candy buffet also.

Asking friends to help has saved us a lot of money.

We've also shopped around. We found a great photographer who charges literally 1/3 of all the others I spoke with. He knows what he's doing, but has a full-time, so he doesn't depend on photography to pay the bills.

Chatting with friends has also helped. Two friends are planning their weddings and we've shared ideas. Ways to make your own invitations, who to contact for a better price or something more creative, etc.

Why not a DIY wedding so that it will help ease the budget? That is what I am planning to do with mine, I was looking around for good cardmaking ideas that I can use for my wedding invitations to make it look more a DIY wedding.

Hi,
A friend of mine recently got married and had a beautiful DIY wedding invitation. Much prettier and personal than any I have seen. She is a unique girl and needed a unique way to present herself to her guests and doing it yourself saved her money and let her express herself. Was a little more time intensive but when planning a wedding, it can be a lot of fun too.
